Jones Lang LaSalle’s Upstream Sustainability Services team has a long-standing track record of delivering bespoke sustainable solutions for real estate investors. Our investor clients include both institutional investors and property companies or REITs with managed portfolios.
The business benefits of sustainability to investors include future-proofing assets to accommodate changing investor and occupier preferences, and maintaining strong rental incomes and capital values by avoiding obsolescence. Institutional investors need to exercise long-term fiduciary duty to beneficiaries and need to respond to shareholder pressure. |

Our strategy and vision services can help you identify the sustainability risks and opportunities that are particular to your portfolio. We will support the development of your Responsible Property Investment or Corporate Responsibility strategy or translate sustainability into the Statement of Investment Principles of your individual funds. We can help you to embed this through internal employee engagement & training or external stakeholder consultation with investors, NGOs, government, occupiers and regulators. We can also assess the social, environmental and economic impacts of developments in your portfolio using a range of different tools, including Social Return on Investment. We will also support you in clearly communicating your strategy using our multi media sustainability reporting & assurance services which produce reporting solutions from concept through to final delivery. We can help set up an environmental management system to implement your sustainability strategy and audit it to ensure continual improvement throughout your organisation. We are also supporting our more forward-thinking investor clients to develop robust climate change adaptation frameworks, to ensure readiness for uncertain future scenarios.

Benchmarking & Accounting (read more)
Measuring the performance of individual assets or entire portfolios is the starting point for managing them more sustainably. Our performance measurement & monitoring services provide robust tools to measure the energy, water, waste and transport impacts of your real estate assets monthly, quarterly or annually. We can also measure the carbon footprint of an asset, fund, or entire organisation using our carbon footprinting accounting services. For UK investors eligible under the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, our advice ensures compliance with the scheme through robust data validation processes and support in producing Evidence Packs and Annual & Footprint reports. Finally, our benchmarking services enable you to compare performance of your assets against peers and industry norms, allowing you to identify and prioritise assets for improvement. We provide the benchmarking capability for both the Greenprint Foundation and Better Buildings Partnership, both of which are investor-led initiatives.
