CRC allowance purchase approaches. Are you ready?

With less than three months to go until the end of the 2nd CRC reporting year, all participants should be preparing their Annual Report and budgeting for the first purchase of allowances.

The Government has issued draft regulations on the CRC allowance purchase; the key features are below.

  • Allowance price is confirmed as £12 for at least 2011/12.
  • Allowances must be requested and payment made between the first working day of June and the last working day of July each year.
  • A fee for issuing allowances can be levied on participants. The fee level is not stated

The CRC Energy Efficency Scheme

The CRC is the UK's mandatory climate change and energy efficiency scheme. Formerly known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment, the CRC came into force on April 1st 2010. Any business who purchases energy on the half hourly market will have responsibilities under the scheme.
