The CRC Energy Efficency Scheme
December 2012: Continued uncertainty for the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, has announced that the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) will be retained in a simplified form, at least until a review of its effectiveness in 2016. Its future has been in doubt since the 2012 Budget announcement in March this year.
The CRC is the UK's mandatory climate change and energy efficiency scheme. Formerly known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment, the CRC came into force on April 1st 2010. Any business who purchases energy on the half hourly market will have responsibilities under the scheme. The CRC will have a significant impact on those in the real estate sector, particularly now that revenue recycling has been withdrawn , including
- Cost of CRC allowances
- Impact on reputation
- Significant time and resource implications
